Approach to Counselling

Megha is formally trained in child/play therapy. She integrates sandplay, expressive arts, and positive behaviour supports to target the goals outlined by the adults in the child's life. Megha's tailors each therapeutic intervention to align with a child’s unique developmental age and individual needs. Her approach reflects a deep understanding of how play and creative expression can facilitate insight, emotional regulation, and adaptive behaviour change. By thoughtfully combining structured and expressive techniques, she supports children in building foundational social, emotional, and cognitive skills that foster long-term growth and resilience.

What is Megha's process to start therapy?

There are two different steps for children 12 and under & youth 13-17.

CHILDREN 12 AND UNDER:

You are required to schedule a guardian intake appointment first. The child does not attend this session so that all parties can speak freely and openly about the strengths and areas of growth of your child. It is strongly advised that 4 child sessions are booked in advanced at approximately 7-10 days apart to ensure that your child does not experience a delay in therapy due to scheduling availability, and to maintain momentum to their therapeutic growth. You are welcome to reschedule a pre-booked appointment with at least 24 hour notice if you notice a scheduling conflict in the future. After the child sessions, your Megha will invite you into a guardian session again for reflection, strategies and goal review. Please note that you can communicate any changes to this outline with Megha directly to support your process best.

YOUTH & TEENS 13+

Unless you require an in-depth discussion about your child/teen's history and current struggles, it is not necessary to schedule a full guardian intake appointment.
Ideally, the first intake appointment would be 75 minutes and is attended by you and your child. You can speak openly together or take turns in the 75 minute session to provide history and identify therapeutic goals.

Some teens may not require a 75 minute intake appointment with a parent/guardian. In these cases, a quick phone call to review consent to therapy with the legal guardians may be sufficient.

Since Megha's support is highly individualized, you are welcome to schedule a FREE 15 minute telephone consultation with Megha to understand the unique steps involved with your situation, ask questions about her or the therapy process.
